Rare Early Antique David Andersen Norwegian 830 Silver Enamel Solje Wedding Brooch Pin, Circa 1888 - 1900.

A rare and beautiful early Norwegian 830 silver Solje Wedding Pin by David Andersen. The top of the pin is a large round dome the intricate enamel detail. On each side are two small round ornate circles from which dangle a sweeping twisted filigree piece with three enameled spoons or drops. (Dangles - Norwegian artisans call the little dangling shapes "spoons" because of their shape. This type of pin / brooch "Solje" is a traditional ornament for Norwegian weddings. They are also traditionally worn by married woman. Legend has it that the brooch functions as a protection from evil spirits because of it's reflective shimmery dangles. The drops and spoons are vermeil both front and back

The back of the brooch is marked 830 for silver content along with the early David Andersen maker's mark. The pin brooch measures 2 3/8" long by 1 5/8" wide. The brooch has the old style C clasp on the back. The pin is in excellent condition for it's age. Beautiful aged patina. It does have some slight enamel loss on the large center area. No other issues.

A highly sought after collectable Norwegian heirloom. Would make a lovely bridal shower or wedding gift for a new bride.
